It all began in 2019 with the Mint's unexpected release of surplus Silver Eagles. These previously unknown 2016-W 30th Anniversary Lettered Edge Silver Eagle proofs — once scheduled for de-trashing — were showing up at NGC and PCGS.
Grading authorities acknowledged the historic nature of this group of coins and were in agreement that these coins ought to be distinguished with a new pedigree. We think the West Point Mint Hoard pedigree offers collectors an extremely attractive low-mintage opportunity.
